About 6 months ago, we sent documents to my wife's parents including a statement of financial support and an invitation for a 2-week visit to us in the US. They took the train from Odessa to the embassy at Kiev but were denied the visa. The reason given was: "We cannot be sure that you will return, as you are leaving nothing behind.' After they were denied, they were told that they must wait for one year to re-apply to the Ukrainian government. We have heard that it is easier to obtain a visa for a family member if only one of them comes to visit, but have no proof of this.
Now, Irina and I are having a baby due August 4th of this year. We would really like to have her mother, Elena come here for a few weeks during late July/August.
We looked at the web page: http://www.usemb.kiev.ua/consular/Reapply.html
about re-applying, but want to make sure that she gets it.
Can anyone share experiences on this issue?
Thanks,
jeremy and Irina
