The Ukrainian Orthodox Mission of Christ the Lord of Mercy, in Bloor West Village, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was pleased to welcome the Very Rev. Archpriest Dr. Yuri Mycyk, who celebrated the Divine Liturgy and preached Sunday 17 October 1999 (n.s.) at the new Toronto mission.
Father Yuri is a priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Kyiv Patriarchate, under the omophor of His Holiness, Patriarch FILARET of Kyiv and All Rus'-Ukraine. Father Yuri serves as priest at the Annunciation of the Theotokos Church in Kyiv, and is employed as Professor of History, Liturgics and Theology at the St. Petro Mohyla Academy in Kiev. He is well-known and highly respected as a priest and scholar in Ukraine and in the Ukrainian diaspora.
Father Yuri arrived in Canada Friday, October 16th, and is spending a few days in Toronto before embarking for Edmonton, Alberta, where he will be a guest lecturer for about two months in the Department of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta. He served the liturgy at the invitation of the Right Rev. Mitrat Yaroslaw R. Sereda, pastor of the Toronto parish.
Father Yuri encouraged the faithful to be strong in the midst of persecution, and spoke movingly of his own journey from the Russian Orthodox Church to the Kyiv Patriarchate. He expressed joy that the Kyiv Patriarchate is building ministries in Canada, and hopes to celebrate the Liturgy at least once again for the Toronto parish before returning to Ukraine.

The UAOC-KP is part of the universal communion of the Kyiv Patriarchate under the leadership of His Holiness, Patriarch FILARET.
