Parachutist Drops in on CYM Zdvyh
Ellenville, NY - Sunday, September 5, 1999
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the existence of the Ukrainian American
Youth Association ("UAYA") in America, Ivan Kaczor, a cymivetz from New York,
participated in a unique and exciting fashion. On Sunday afternoon,
approximately 1PM, Ivan parachuted into the formal celebration of the holiday
weekend. Despite strong, unfriendly winds and daunting obstacles on the landing
field, Ivan successfully landed amidst his fellow cymivtsi on the main field
during the manifestatsia. Upon his landing, Ivan was greeted by the President
of UAYA (Worldwide), Vera Hajdamacha, who flew in for the celebrations from
Ukraine, by the President of UAYA in America, Yuriy Nakonechnyj, and by the
Komandant of Zdwyh, Krys Kosz. The parachutist presented the Ukrainian National
Flag to Mr. Nakonechnyj, which was then raised to the sounds of the Ukrainian
National Anthem. To add to the excitement of the jump and to reaffirm his
loyalty to UAYA, Ivan pulled off his parachuting suit, to unveil his CYM
uniform.
Congratulations to Ivan Kaczor for an exciting twist to the 50th celebrations of the organization of UAYA in America. Congratulations to UAYA for its 50 years of outstanding work with Ukrainian youth in the United States.
