July 4th weekend at St. Anthony of the Kiev Caves Orthodox Monastery
Over the July 4th weekend St. Anthony of the Kiev Caves Orthodox Monastery will celebrate the freedom America has given to thousands of immigrants to this country. One of those is Joseph Tomassi, a native of Poland who settled in Starke County Indiana and in the early 1900's built the resort which is now St. Anthony's Monastery.
Mr. Tommassi greatly appreciated the opportunities he found in America. In 1924 he built a large Statue of Liberty. The statue is still located on the monastery campus. On Saturday, July 3rd, following the Liturgy the statue will be rededicated and blessed.
The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday July 3rd starting at 10 AM. The rededication and bless of the Statue of Liberty will follow. Following the bless there will be an old fashion American barbecue. Special service will be celebrated throughout the July 4th Weekend.
Limited space is available for visitors in the monastery's guest quarters. There is also camping available on the monastery campus. The monastery is next to Bass Lake. Families can enjoy the lake and surround area. For more information about the monastery's Camping with God program, please visit their web site at http://www.monksweb.net/camp.
For more information about the July 4th Weekend activities at the monastery, you can contact the monastery at (219) 772-7089 or by email at mailto: monastery@monksweb.net.
The monastery is always open to the public and tours of the monastery campus will be conducted throughout the weekend.
