Dear Friends,

We are very pleased to ask you to help the Folk Children Dance Ballet "Veseli Cherevychky" (http://jolly-boots.lim.lviv.ua/) from the city of Lviv, UKRAINE to perform in the International Children’s Festival. The festivities will take part in September 12-19, 1999 in Vienna, Virginia, USA. The festival committee has invited other children’s groups from Australia, China, Ireland, Greece and Spain as well.

We would like to acquaint the world with Ukrainian culture, which has existed for many centuries and has been developed by all generations.

In addition to performing in Ukraine, we tour Europe extensively and are recognized as a very valuable phenomenon in Ukrainian dancing and a very rare sensation in the development of European folk dancing. Europeans acknowledge the universally-acclaimed Folk Children Dance Ballet as an art of the highest professionalism. We were chosen among 82 children’s’ dance groups to take part in the EuroDisney show. Our concerts were telecast by French television companies not only in France, but also around Europe many times. As the culmination of our achievements, we held a solo performance in the UNESCO hall (France) and also were participants of the First International Folk Festival CIOFF UNESCO UKRAINE.

Thanks to the kind help of our sponsors and admirers, we managed to resolve the following issues regarding our participation in the Festival: The International Children’s Festival provides hotel accommodation, meals and group local transportation for 20 participants of our dancing group.

The French Cultural Association "Maroussia" has paid for the sewing of the new national costumes for the participants of our dancing group.

The Tourist - transport company "Lviv - Inturtrance" will grant free return transport service by bus to any European airport.

Nevertheless, we are still faced with the problem of the cost of airline tickets.

During the preliminary internal competition we selected the most talented and professional children for participation in this Festival. Unfortunately, the personal savings of the parents are hardly adequate because the average Ukrainian salary is only 200 hryvnias (50 $ US) per month. Thus, we will have to rely almost fully on scholarships or company sponsorship. We estimate the total cost for travel and visas is around $600 for each child. Therefore we would deeply appreciate your guidance and advice on identifying and soliciting appropriate organizations for contributions to this event.

From our side we would be very pleased to advertise all our sponsors during our performances within the framework of the International Children’s Festival. Currently, the week of activities attracts more than 30,000 visitors. At the some time we would highly appreciate the attendance of all of our admirers and sponsors to our concerts.

We would be delighted to hear from you soon.

With best regards,

Participants of Folk Children Dance Ballet "Veseli Cherevychky"
