Kiev Patriarchate Center to host memorial service for veterans

The public and all veterans are invited

San Francisco, September 23, 1998: The Kiev Patriarchate Center in USA will host a special Memorial Day service on Saturday, May 29, 1999, at St. Anthony of the Kiev Caves Orthodox Monastery in Bass Lake, Indiana. Services will commence with the Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM in the Church of the Dormition on the monastery campus. Father Deacon Joseph Gawlik of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Homewood, Illinois will give the homily at the Liturgy. Immediately following the Liturgy, at the special request of several veterans, a Moleben for Peace will be served. It will be a prayer service for peace in the world in a time of conflict. There will then be a processional from the church to in front of the Kiev Patriarchate Center. There the American and Ukrainian flags will be raised and the national anthems played. A memorial service for those who served America will be conducted and names of fallen veterans read. Colors guards and representatives of several veterans groups will participate.

A lunch will follow. Speakers at the lunch include Lt. Col. Phillip Campbell, Commander of the Army ROTC at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana; Eric Wendt, Commander of the Knox, Indiana, VFW; and, Father Ken Anatoly, rector of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Mission in Millstadt, Illinois.

The Kiev Patriarchate Center in USA is part of the worldwide Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the leadership of His Holiness Philaret, Patriarch of Kiev and All Ukrainian. The monastery is part of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church under Archbishop ALEXANDER.
