Spring Issue of Eurasia-wide On-Line Journal "Polemika"
Topic: Domestic Politics in the NIS: Overcoming Crisis and Conflict
Deadline: April 10, 1999The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) is pleased to announce a call for papers for the spring 1999 issue of Polemika, an on-line journal facilitating discussion of issues pertinent to transitional societies in Eurasia. The journal highlights substantive articles, essays, book reviews, and conference reports produced by alumni of the USIA Regional Scholar Exchange Program and Freedom Support Act Fellowships in Contemporary Issues and are the result of the knowledge and skills gained from their research in the US. In addition, alumni of all other USIA scholarly programs (Fulbright, Junior Faculty Curriculum Development, Summer Institutes) and other scholars and specialists throughout Eurasia are encouraged to submit their work for publication in Polemika.
Each issue of Polemika will focus on a specific, predetermined theme such as foreign policy, economic development, legal reform, and other subjects relevant to the region. Articles may be published in English or Russian. The theme for the next issue of Polemika, to be released in the spring of 1999, will be “Domestic Politics in the NIS: Overcoming Crisis and Conflict.” Deadline for all submissions is April 10, 1999.
Potential Submissions:
Original research: Research and scholarly articles should be at least 1,500 words, but no longer than 5,000 words.
Essays: Shorter articles, opinion/editorial pieces, or essays should focus on contemporary issues, issues relevant to the NIS, or individuals’ experience on a USIA scholarly program.
Book Reviews: Book and literature reviews should review contemporary literature relevant to the theme of the particular issue, and be 250 to 1,000 words.
Conference Reviews: Reviews and essays related to recent conferences in Eurasia or the US should be 250 to 1,000 words.
Submission Requirements:
Contributors should send submissions to IREX electronically or on 3.5” floppy disk in text only format. All texts submitted via email should be sent to polemika@irex.ru AND to cdunn@irex.ru.Contributors should include biographical information of no more than one half page.
