Marusia Yaworska Music Scholarship
This graduate-level music scholarship is intended to recognize the most talented person in Canada or Ukraine, and to promote music study in Canada, Ukraine, or elsewhere. The fund was established from the estate of Marusia Yaworska, a music lover, pianist, and violinist, who taught performing arts in Toronto for 40 years.
Eligibility:
- be an individual from Ukraine or Canada;
- be eligible for enrolment and intending to enrol full-time in a recognized music programme at the University level or equivalent, in Canada, Ukraine, or elsewhere;
- be nominated by the student's school of music.
Application procedure:
Each school is invited to submit the name of one student as a candidate for this scholarship. Information regarding documentation required to support this nomination is available from the University of Ottawa Department of Music.
Application deadline: March 31.

The 1998 winners of $5,000 awards in this graduate-level music scholarship were violinist Dmytro Tkachenko (Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music), and violinist Daryl Strain (McGill University). Scholarships were also awarded to organist Jonathan Oldengarm (Wilfrid Laurier University) ; violinist Marie-Caroline Bourque (University of Ottawa); ethnomusicologist Marcia Kierkosz (York University); and pianist Olena Shvetsova (Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music) (conditional).
The 1997 winners were Oleh Bezborodko in Kyiv, and Denys Derome in Montreal.
