OLHA "O-KA" KUZMOWYCZ

Born in Lviv, Ukraine, November 24, 1917
Died in New York City, March 7, 2012

O-KA was a life-long member of the Ukrainian scout group Plast ("Hrebli" troop), Honorable Member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, journalist and editor for the Ukrainian newspaper Svoboda. She was a highly respected member of Ukrainian communit³ås throughout the world.

Her mother, Olena Fedak Sheparovych, was a journalist and activist. Olha's grandfather was Stepan Fedak, Lviv (Ukraine) community leader, businessman, and statesman. Her uncle, Yevhen Konovalets, was assassinated in 1938 by a Bolshevik agent for anti-Soviet activities and holds an important place in Ukraine's history for his military and political leadership. Another uncle, Andrij Melnyk, headed the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN, later OUN-M) after Ye. Konovalets' death and was imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp.
