UAOC Mourns the Passing of Senator Edward Kennedy
"The Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) Diaspora will remember Sen. Kennedy and his family during the Divine Liturgy this Sunday," said Bishop Paul Peter Jesep, Metropolitan Meyfodii's designated spokesperson in the United States. Metropolitan Michael of North and South America has directed the priests and faithful in the Diaspora to pray for the Senator and his family during this time of transition.
"The UAOC is grateful for the life and legacy of the Senator for many reasons. They include the 'Profiles in Courage Award' he presented at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library to Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko," reflected Bishop Paul Peter. "This smart, tough lion furthered liberty, freedom, and national identity in Ukraine by acknowledging and celebrating the uniqueness of the Ukrainian soul to the world. Ukrainians will always be proud of the Senator as Americans and grateful to him as American citizens of Ukrainian ancestry."
"Senator Kennedy was not just a sterling representative for the People of Massachusetts," said Bishop Paul Peter, "he was America's Statesman who made both our nation and the world a better place. May God grant him peace. May God welcome him into heaven. May God hold his family and friends. May God comfort the nation as it reflects on the loss of a great citizen and legislator."
