Proceeds from the sale of Conscience Calls are used to purchase infant formula for orphanages in Ukraine though the "Starving For Color" program. "Starving for Color" was started by Roksolana Tymiak-Lonchyna with the opening of the Black and White photo exhibit of orphaned, neglected and abandoned children of Lviv, Ukraine, in October of 2002 at the Ukrainian National Museum in Chicago, IL. With the help of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Parish an account was established to nourish the orphaned newborns.
Dr. Tymiak-Lonchyna has been traveling to Ukraine every 4-6 months at her own expense, visiting orphanages and buying formula as needed in 6 month increments. The amount of formula purchased varies depending on the number of newborns residing at the orphanages. Prices are negotiated with a local distributor, and Dr. Tymiak-Lonchyna remains until the formula is delivered, at which point the payment is made.
Until 2005, Dr. Tymiak-Lonchyna worked with one orphanage in Lviv since it was the only one that housed newborn orphans. As a result of her trip to Ukraine during the Orange Revolution, she also supports infant formula supplies at an orphanage in Donetsk.
It is the author's goal to bring more orphanages into the program. But this has to be done responsibly with an eye on the available funds, primarily so that the orphanages where the program was initiated do not suffer as a result.
It takes about 7.24 hryvni (5.12 hryvni - $1.00) a day to feed a child. Each book sold provides approximately 17 days of sustenance for one child. One of the orphanages cares for between 9 to 14 newborns at any given time, and they require formula through the first 8 months.

When Ukrainians, who have lived their entire lives in America, certify their love for Ukraine, not only with their hearts and thoughts but with their deeds, then this act gives our nation a new hope. These Ukrainian-Americans are more "Ukrainian" then we residents of Ukraine, who often , do not act on behalf of our own causes, for our own people. Here we have in mind about those individuals who, during Ukraine's most trying moment during the third round of elections for the President of Ukraine (26, December 2004), left their jobs and traveled as election observers to Donetsk. The book "Poklyk Sumlinnia-Concience Calls" which was presented at the Ethnographic Museum in Lviv, Ukraine on Friday, January 11, 2006 at 4pm is a product of this commitment.
Roksolana Tymiak-Lonchyna is a dentist from Chicago, Illinois. This woman though born far from this country was not at all indifferent to events occurring in Ukraine. She initiated the fund "Starving for Color" with her exhibit of black & white photos of orphaned and abandoned children of Lviv, in October 2002 at the Ukrainian National Museum in Chicago, Illinois. Through the auspices of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Parish and account was opened for the purchase of infant formula to nourish the infant orphans.
Since October of 2002 Dr. Roksolana has traveled to Ukraine at her own expense and purchases this formula for the children in the orphanages. As a result of her trip to Donetsk as an election Observer, as described in the book, an orphanage in that city has become a beneficiary of this fund.
Dr. Roksolana book "Conscience Calls-Poklyk Sumlinnia", which she insisted on publishing in Ukraine using a Ukrainian publisher is another example of her and her husbands' (Vassyl Lonchynas'), dedication to Ukraine. This book is a photojournalistic document of the two-week stay of the Lonchynas in Lviv, Kyiv, and Donetsk. The text reads in English and Ukrainian and is displayed in parallel columns for ease of translation.
A special feature, of this book is that it portrays Ukraine and especially Donetsk in a very positive light. After reading this book you have a desire to see Ukraine for yourself and meet its people.
The book was introduced in Chicago on the anniversary of the Orange Revolution. A week latter it was presented in New York City. In both cities all the books they had were sold.
"In this book I bring attention to the people, their feelings, modes, their daily lives, their surroundings during our two week journey. I am not a politician, nor a historian, so you will not find any political or historical comments. I do bring attention to the role of the observer, obligations, preparations and responsibilities during the elections for President of Ukraine," said from Dr. Roksolana' at the book presentation in Lviv.
This book also is a vehicle to help Ukrainian orphans. From the profits of this book more infant formula will be bought to nourish the youngest (5 days to 3 years) children in the Lviv orphanages and an orphanage in Donetsk.
Dr. Myroslava Pawlyk, the Head Doctor of the Lviv Orphanage #2, stated during the book presentation:
"We are working with Dr. Roksolana since 2002. As a result of her photo exhibit, funds collected for the, "Starving for Color" fund were used to purchase infant formula. Our children, when they are born, are at mostly unwanted children. In many cases they are malnourished and suffer from anemia of poor nutrition. In order for these children to pull through this critical condition, besides medical treatment, proper nourishment is imperative. This nourishment, as we know, is expensive and prohibitive and Dr. Roksolana was able to assist us in this respect."
Dr. Roksolana appealed to the participants:
"Today I am appealing to the citizens of Ukraine, the inhabitants of Lviv to join this fund and help your children start with hope for a better and healthier life. A healthy body has a healthy soul, and the soul of a nation is all of our children" She is correct in her appeal. She has done her job and continues to contribute to the future of Ukraine. What have we, citizens of Lviv, done?

Коли українці, що проживають все своє життя в Америці, але не лише серцем і думками, а й добрими справами засвідчують свою любов до України, то це дає нашому народові нову надію. В цих людях є часом більше "українського", ніж в нас самих, хоч ми живемо фізично тут, в Україні, бо часто саме ми не робимо нічого для свого, для своїх. Піде мова про тих людей, які в скрутну для України хвилину, під час третього туру виборів Президента України (26 грудня, 2004), залишили всі свої справи і поїхали спостерігачами за виборами до Донецька та їх книжку "Поклик сумління", презентація якої відбулася минулої п"ятниці о 16:00 в Музеї етнографії та ужиткового мистецтва у Львові.
Роксоляна Тимяк-Лончина - дантист з Чикаго. Ця жінка аж ніяк не байдужа до того, що робиться на Україні, хоча народилася і живе далеко поза її межами. Вона свого часу започаткувала фонд "Starving For Color"("Позбавлені барв"), що розпочався виставкою чорно-білих фотографій сиріт і бездомних дітей Львова у жовтні 2002 року в Українському національному музеї в Чикаго, штат Іллінойс. За допомогою парафії святих Володимира і Ольги відкрито рахунок для закупівлі молока для додаткового харчування немовлят у сиротинцях. Від жовтня 2002 року пані Роксоляна кожні 6 місяців їздить до Львова за свої кошти і закуповує молочне харчування для сиріт. А наслідком її поїздки до Донецька, описаної у книжці, є те, що один сиротинець там тепер одержує допомогу.
Книжка пані Роксолани "Поклик сумління", яку вона погодилася видати лише в українському видавництві, є ще одним свідченням відданості її та її чоловіка Василя Лончини своїй землі. Це є фотографічна і текстова історія двох тижнів перебування подружжя Лончин в Україні (Львів-Київ-Донецьк), подана паралельно українською та англійською мовами. Особливістю цієї книжки є те, що вона показує Україну, і зокрема Донецьк, в дуже доброзичливому світлі. Після прочитаного хочеться на власні очі побачити Україну, її людей. Презентація цієї книжки у Чикаго була приурочена до річниці Помаранчевої революції. Також презентація "Поклику сумління" відбулася в Нью-Йорку. В обох містах продали всі книжки.
"Я в цій книжці звертаю увагу на людей, на їхні почуття і життя, їхнє оточення під час нашої двотижневої мандрівки. Я ані політик, я ані історик, так що там я не маю жадних політичних чи історичних коментарів. І також звертаю увагу на роль спостерігача, тобто наші обов"язки, підготовку і відповідальність як спостерігачів на Україні", - запевняє доктор Тимяк-Лончина.
Ця книжка є також засобом допомоги українським сиротам, адже за виручені кошти буде закуповуватися харчування для найменших сиріт (дітям, яким від 5 днів до 3 рочків) трьох сиротинців Львова, а тепер ще й сиротинця Донецька.
"З пані Роксоляною ми вже працюємо з 2002 року, - розповідає головний лікар дитячого будинку №2, - З виставки фотографій кошти були передані для придбання адаптованих сумішей. Наші діти, як народжуються - це є, переважно, небажені діти, і вже коли вони народжуються, в тих дітей виявляється і дистрофія вроджена, і анімія вроджена. Для того, щоби дитину в подальшому вивести з того стану, окрім лікування потрібна корекція в харчуванні. Таке харчування є, як ми знаємо, дороге і недоступне, і пані Роксоляна нам помогла в тому".
"Сьогодні звертаюся до громади України, міста Львова, щоб долучилися до цього фонду і допомогли своїм дітям почати з надією до кращого здорового життя. В здоровому тілі - здорова душа, а душа народу - це всі наші діти" - каже Роксоляна Тимяк-Лончина і має цілковиту рацію. Вона зробила і продовжує робити свої внески у майбутнє України. А що зробили ми?
