The Honorable
Colin L. Powell
Secretary of State
Washington D.C., 20520

Dear Mr. Secretary:

Allow me to express my sincerest gratitude to you for your statements regarding the election results in Ukraine. Your quick and effective response, indicating your deep regret with the falsification of the electoral process in Ukraine, focused immediate attention on this country and its people. By refusing to recognize the election results, the United States and other members of the international community, prevented a corrupt cabal of individuals from seizing the seat of government.

At the same time, your recognition of these elections as historical and critical for the Ukrainian people, reaffirms and lends hope to their pursuit of a government that is freely and duly elected in accordance with article #69 of the Ukrainian constitution.

Furthermore, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 21.3 states that "The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures."

Your continuous support will assure a dignified and peaceful resolution to these issues

Sincerely yours,
Alex M. Labunka
