Cardinal Lubomyr Husar to Visit Ukrainian Catholic Community in Boston

The Ukrainian Catholic Community of Boston will welcome Cardinal (Patriarch ???) Lubomyr Husar on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Christ The King Ukrainian Catholic Church, 146 Forest Hills Street, Jamaica Plain at an evening Service. Cardinal Husar holds the title “Major Archbishop of Lviv, Ukraine for Greek Catholics.” He is the Chief Hierarch and Spiritual leader of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, which is the largest Eastern Catholic Church in the world with some 5.5 million faithful in both Ukraine and in foreign Diaspora communities.
While in the United States Cardinal Archbishop Lubomyr will visit the Boston Deanery as well as other deaneries of the Ukrainian Catholic Diocese of Stamford, Connecticut. This Diocese, under the jurisdiction of Bishop Basil Losten encompasses the territory of New England and New York state. The Boston Deanery includes several parishes throughout Eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
The Very Rev. Father Yaroslav Nalysnyk, Dean and pastor of Christ The King Parish in Jamaica Plain has announced that His Beatitude will preside at a prayer service to the Mother of God starting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19. Ukrainian Catholic faithful and clergy will be joined by bishops and priests representing local Eastern Catholic, Roman Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox Communities, in addition to local civic and political leaders. Cardinal Husar will address the assembly and the Service will be followed by a reception on the grounds of Christ The King Church. Gifts will be presented to Cardinal Husar from the various parishes to support the building of a Cathedral and Patriarchal Center in Kyiv, Ukraine.
