Mariana Sadovska
Shadows of forgotten ancestors
US-Tour 2004
Mariana Sadovska transports listeners to another world as she offers charming traditional songs learned from village women during recent expeditions to her native Ukraine. Accompanying herself on the harmonium, Mariana employs variegated timbres of open-throat sound, whipping trills and quavers to reveal the long-buried (and quickly disappearing) heritage of an incredibly complex culture -- calling songs, wedding songs, lullabies, ballads and healing incantations.
Her engaging, vulnerable quality has made her a popular soloist on the international circuit, as well as a sought-after teacher of workshops emphasizing "white voice" (open throat) singing from East European musical traditions. Mariana's acting skills, formed during years with the Theatre Gardzienice in Poland, were honed through numerous festival appearances around the world.
