УККА післав фільм Жнива розпачу до комітету нагороди Пуліцера та the New York Times
Нью Йорк (УККА) — 21-го листопада 2003 року, Комітет нагороди Пуліцера повинен прийняти рішення про долю нагороди Пуліцера, отриманої Волтером Дуранті. На завершення кампанії, спрямованої на відкликання нагороди Пуліцера, Український Конгресовий Комітет Америки (УККА) розіслав копії фільму Жнива розпачу кожному членові комітету, а також видавцю та Предсіднику Екзекутиви the New York Times Артурові Шульцбергерові, мол. УККА висловлює подяку Славкові Новіцькому, продюсерові фільму, за його співпрацю з УККА та надання оригінальної копії для відтворення.
Цей документальний фільм, який був фінансований Комітетом Дослідування Українського Голодомору, був супроводжуваний листом, в якому сказано: "Красномовну, але печальну розповідь цього фільму доповнюють матеріяли архівів, в яких зображено справжній стан українського селянства на початку 1930-их років. Ці матеріяли спростовують брехню, яку розповідав Волтер Дуранті, коли писав: "Не існує жодного голодомору, чи голоду взагалі, і навряд чи буде." Ми розуміємо, що Волтер Дуранті був нагороджений нагородою Пуліцера у 1932 році за репортажі, написані у 1931 році, але то не змінює факту, що він був на услугах комуністів до, під час, та після українського Голодомору-Геноциду. Це видно з того, що у 1931році він сам сказав, що "на підставі угоди між the New York Times та радянською владою," його репортажі завжди відбивають офіційну думку радянського уряду, а не його власну. Така заява Дуранті не тільки дискредитує його "об'єктивне" висвітлення Радянського Союзу у 1931 році, але й ставить під сумнів його журналістичну мораль, за яку йому було вручено престіжну нагороду Пуліцера."
Кампанія для відкликання нагороди Дуранті, яка продовжуєтья цілий рік, є частиною більшої програми УККА, яка проводиться з нагоди 70-ої річниці українського Голодомору-Геноциду, спрямованої на боротьбу з тими, хто й досі заперечує та замовчує Голодомор. Багатогранна програма, яка була заснована в січні 2003 року Екзекутивою УККА, по-справжньому розпочалася в лютому листовною кампанією, в рамках якої громада надсилала листи, факси, та електронну пошту до комітету нагороди Пуліцера. Цю програму було розширено з ініціятиви Української Канадської Ліги Громадських Свобід, яка запропонувала в квітні 2003 року розпочати всесвітню кампанію поштівок, спрямовану на Сіга Гісслера, Адміністратора нагороди Пуліцера, за якою слідувала всесвітня кампанія поштівок, спрямована на the New York Times. УККА привітав та співспонзорував ініціятиви УКЛГС, знаючи, що Комітет Пуліцера та the New York Times отримають тисячі поштівок з усього світу із закликом до the New York Times та Комітету нагороди Пуліцера посмертно відкликати нагороду Дуранті.

UCCA sends Harvest of Despair film to Pulitzer Prize Board and New York Times
New York, NY (UCCA) - On November 21, 2003, the Pulitzer Prize Committee is scheduled to meet in New York City for their bi-annual Board meeting, during which they presumably will decide the fate of Walter Duranty's Pulitzer Prize. In a final effort to strip Duranty of his 1932 Pulitzer Prize, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) has sent copies of the award-winning film Harvest of Despair to each member on the Pulitzer Prize Committee, as well as New York Times Chairman and Publisher Arthur Sulzberger, Jr. The UCCA would like to thank Slawko Nowitski, producer of the film, for his cooperation with the UCCA in obtaining the master copy to reproduce.
The documentary film, produced by the Ukrainian Famine Research Committee, was sent accompanied by a letter, which states in part, "The eloquent, yet somber narrative of this documentary film is accompanied by archival scenes that depict the true state in famine-stricken Ukraine in the early 1930s. The scenes shown are contradictory to the lies promulgated by Walter Duranty when he wrote 'There is no famine or actual starvation, nor is there likely to be'. Understanding that Duranty was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 for his writing in 1931, nevertheless, he was a shill for the communists before, during and after the Ukrainian Famine-Genocide. This is evident, when in 1931, he himself stated that "in agreement with the New York Times and the Soviet authorities" his official dispatches always reflect the official opinion of the Soviet regime and not his own. Such an acknowledgement by Duranty not only discredits his "objective" coverage of the Soviet Union in 1931, but questions his journalistic integrity, for which he was awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize."
The yearlong campaign to revoke Walter Duranty's 1932 Pulitzer Prize, timed to coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the Holodomor, the Ukrainian Famine-Genocide, is part of the UCCA's larger program to counter continuing Holodomor-deniers. The wide-ranging program, launched in January 2003 at a UCCA Executive Board meeting, began in earnest in early February with a letter, fax, and e-mail writing campaign to the Pulitzer Board. The program was augmented by a proposal from the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Association to launch a worldwide postcard campaign in April 2003 directed to Mr. Sig Gissler, Administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes, followed by another worldwide postcard campaign in October 2003 targeting the New York Times. The UCCA welcomed and co-sponsored the UCCLA initiatives, thus ensuring that the Pulitzer Prize Committee and the New York Times received thousands of cards from around the world urging the Committee and the New York Times to posthumously revoke Walter Duranty's prize.
