Press Release
ACTION UPDATE!
Washington, DC Pressure is coming from the White House to weaken the Senate's Ukraine Famine Resolution by removing the term "genocide" from it. The resolution, S.Res. 202, is currently in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC). Senator Richard Lugar, Committee Chairman of the SFRC, is reportedly acquiesing to the pressure and is likely to propose that the term "genocide" be removed from the text.
In light of this information, it is most urgent that Ukrainian Americans and their friends telephone, e-mail, or fax letters to Senator Lugar urging him to support S.Res. 202, "A resolution expressing the sense of the Senate regarding the genocidal Ukraine Famine of 1932-33," as written. Senator Lugar's support is essential and critical to the passage of this Resolution in the SFRC and Senate.
In your letters please stress that the Ukrainian American community is determined that those who would deny the unconscionable act of the Soviet Communist regime in engineering the artificial famine in Ukraine in1932-33 must not be allowed to sweep the genocide against Ukrainians under the rug of history as journalist Walter Duranty tried to do at the time. Current and future generations need to remember this tragic event so that nothing like it ever occurs again.
Please fax your letter to Senator Lugar's office in care of Jessica Fugate at fax number 202 224 0836, send e-mails to: senator_lugar@lugar.senate.gov, or telephone Senator Lugar at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (202) 224-4651. To contact members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, refer to this webpage: http://foreign.senate.gov/about.html.
Your action in support of this campaign for historic truth is vital to its success!
