PRESENTATION OF THE MOST HOLY MOTHER OF GOD

A historic event will take place Thursday, June 26, 2003 at the "Church with the Golden Dome" located at the intersection of Biscayne Drive and West Price Boulevard in North Port, two-and-one-half miles due north from US 41. Several bishops and priests, as well as faithful, of various denominations will gather at the church, commonly referred to as St. Mary's, at 11:00 A.M. for a
Prayer for the Unity of Christians.
Invitations have been sent to Orthodox, Protestant and Catholic churches of different jurisdictions and traditions of our area. The program will include a special prayer service for unity, followed by a three minute address by a representative from each church or community present. A reception in the Parish Center adjoining the church (free admission) will follow the church service.
As of this date, His Grace John Nevins, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Venice, and His Excellency Dr. Mykola Melnyk, Bishop of Ukrainian Pentecostal Church, have accepted our invitation to participate. His Beatitude Filaret, Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine, and Bishop Stephan of Cooper City, FL, Ordinary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Kyiv Patriarchy in the United States, will join us as special guests of honor at the prayer service. and at the reception.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Kyiv Patriarchy headed by Patriarch Filaret has the largest number of communicants in the predominantly Orthodox Ukraine. It maintains cordial relations with all Christian and non-Christian religious communities in Ukraine. The only exception is the Orthodox Church - Moscow Patriarchy, which claims to be the only "true Orthodox" church and refuses to recognize other churches including the one headed by Patriarch Filaret.
