Wednesday evening the Los Angeles Lakers were hosted by the San
Antonio Spurs. This was the fifth game of a best of seven
series tied at two games a piece in the semi-final round of
the Western Conference NBA playoffs.
Over the course of the series the Spurs' playing has been consistent
while the Lakers' has been in spurts trailing by large margins and
only coming back late to win by a handful of points.
The first three periods of Wednesday's game fell into this this pattern.

In trying to overcome a 22 point deficit Coach Phil Jackson put
reserve power forward Stanislav Medvedenko into the game. Navigating
like a stealth fighter shooting midrange jumpers, delivering picks,
making most of his free throws, and pulling down several defensive
rebounds Slava contributed 11 points to the Lakers late game run in
their attempt to overcome the Spurs. Nevertheless, the Spurs held
on to win 96-94.
For the evening Slava was 5 for 6 in field goals, 3 for 4 from the
free throw line for a total contribution of 13 points on 17 minutes
of play, making him the Lakers' third highest scorer for the evening
behind Shaquille O'Neal's 20 and Kobe Bryant's 36. He also got 4
rebounds, 3 of which were defensive.
Paying his teammate a backhanded compliment reserve point guard Jannero
Pargo said
"But Slava's a scorer, man. I mean, this guy can sit on the bench
for the whole game and then come out and make nearly every shot.
