Нью-Йорк - Минулого тижня у консульстві України в Нью-Йорку відбувся круглий стіл присвячений боротьбі з відмиванням брудних грошей в Україні. Круглий стіл був організований Генеральним Консульством України та Асоціацією Адвокатів Штату Нью-Йорк (New York State Bar Association) за сприяння нью-йоркських та київських юридичних фірм: Szul & Associates та Шевченко, Дідковський та Партнери.
Круглий стіл був викликаний гострою необхідністю проінформувати ділові кола Нью-Йорку з приводу ситуації з відмиванням брудних грошей в Україні. Як відомо, у грудні міжнародна організація з моніторингу фінансового законодавства (Financial Action Task Force - FATF) запровадила санкції проти України за ніби-то невідповідність законодавства міжнародним стандартам. Ця подія набула широкого розголосу у світі. Парламент і уряд зреагували блискавично прийнявши ряд нормативних документів, які привели українське законодавство у відповідність зі світовими вимогами. FATF відреагував скасувавши так звані "контр-заходи" контролю, що передбачали дуже жорсткий режим фінансових операцій з Україною. На жаль, ця подія залишилася поза увагою преси у світі і, зокрема, у Нью-Йорку.
Круглий стіл викликав жвавий інтерес серед учасників - провідних банкірів, юристів, інвесторів. Дуже швидко з відмивання грошей фокус перемістився на інвестування в Україну. З'ясувалося, що потенційні інвестори відчувають гострий брак інформації з приводу можливостей інвестування в Україну.
Круглий стіл є першим із серії заходів, що плануются організаторами аби пожвавити інтерес до України серед інвесторів у Сполучених Штатах.

New York — Last week the Consulate General of Ukraine in New York and the New York State Bar Association co-sponsored a Roundtable about issues of money laundering in Ukraine. Information and other assistance were provided by New York and Kyiv law firms: Szul & Associates, Esqs. (Wall St, New York), and Shevchenko, Didkovskyy & Partners, Kyiv.
The roundtable was organized to inform the legal and business community of New York about Ukraine's recent problems with money laundering. In December the international financial legislation monitoring organization Financial Action Task Force ("FATF") introduced sanctions against Ukraine for alleged non-compliance with the international standards on money laundering. This event was widely publicized in media around the world. The parliament of Ukraine and the government were quick to adopt a comprehensive set of legislation and regulations in full compliance with these requirements. FATF responded by revoking their so called "counter measures" which would have imposed very strict requirements and limitations on all financial transactions with Ukraine. Effectively, all sanctions were lifted against Ukraine, yet this event was unnoticed by the world media in the world, and particularly in New York.
The Roundtable generated substantial interest and a lively exchange of ideas among the participants, prominent U.S. bankers, lawyers and investors. The event's focus then shifted quickly from money laundering to the various ways of improving and supporting investing in Ukraine. It also soon became obvious that many U.S. potential investors lacked sufficient practical insight and information about Ukrainian investment and business opportunities.
The Roundtable was the first in a series of events planned by the organizers aimed toward providing current updates and information about Ukraine for potential investors from North and South America.
