The Ukraine Train Continues to Build up Steam on a Night Commemorating Sonics' Owners' 'No love for The Glove'
by Max Pyziur
On Friday February 21st the Seattle Supersonics hosted the Milwaukee
Bucks in a nationally televised match. Controversy preceded the
game because the day before the two teams had just swapped several
of its key players (Gary Payton and Desmond Mason of the Sonics for
Ray allen and Kevin Ollie of the Bucks). None of the traded players
participated, but
Seattle fans were in an uproar over the
loss
of Gary (The Glove) Payton, Sonics 12 year veteran and all-star.
The Sonics lead owner (and Starbucks CEO) definitely showed "No Love
for the Glove" placing business far over team morale and fan loyalty.
Both teams appeared to be rattled by the previous day's moves and
execution of their playing strategies suffered as a consequence. However,
the Sonics made the best of the situation trouncing the Bucks 88-58 on the
de facto leadership of guard Brent Barry.
Backup power forward/center
Vitaly Potapenko executed his role admirably,
making all 4 of his field goals for 8 points (all on assists from Brent
Barry), 4 defensive rebounds, and giving up only 1 personal foul in 13
minutes of play.
Details of Vitaly's shots:
2nd Period @ 7:28 [SEA 28-23] 15 footer from the left corner of the basket
Assist: Barry
2nd Period @ 6:54 [SEA 30-23] Layup from the right of the basket
Assist: Barry
2nd Period @ 3:44 [SEA 37-25] 11 foot jumper from center court
Assist: Barry (7 AST)
2nd Period @ 1:35 [SEA 43-31] 9 foot Jumper from the center-right of the basket
