Forum on Ukrainian Orphans and the AIDS / HIV situation in Ukraine to take place in Philadelphia
On Saturday, MAY 3rd, The Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center will be hosting a very important FORUM at the center that is located just outside of Philadelphia. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend. This all day FORUM will benefit AIDS/HIV groups that provide educational programs, assistance to those with HIV, and projects relating to orphans and street kids throughout Ukraine. The orphans and street kids represent the most high-risk group for being potentially infected by this deadly virus. This FORUM will take place starting at 9AM, and feature several knowledgeable speakers and prominent guests. The news media is invited to attend. Guests will include Ukrainian and Panamanian Embassy staff, the Ukrainian Ambassador to the UN, and others to be announced at a later date. Please support this effort.
Miss Universe, Justine Pasek, a spokesperson for AIDS/HIV, will give a Press Conference on Sunday, May 4th at 12 noon in Philadelphia's Independence Visitor's Center.
AIDS/HIV Epidemic in Ukraine
In Ukraine today, the estimated number of people who have been infected with the AIDS/HIV virus has risen to 400,000. Ukraine has the highest proportion of HIV cases in Eastern Europe. Approximately 80% are young people between the ages of 15 and 29. In a period of 3 years, the number of children born to HIV positive mothers has more than tripled.
Why this FORUM?
Much more education is needed in Ukraine about the prevention of this deadly virus for social workers, families and for those living in poverty who have no access to information about this virus. As more AIDS/HIV victims are appearing in orphanages, and orphans and street kids are especially at high-risk, our purpose is to help those organizations in Ukraine who provide both educational and help services to these children and young adults. This FORUM will focus on awareness of this problem, what is currently being done, what more needs to be done, how we can help, and awareness about organizations in North America that are involved in humanitarian efforts in Ukraine to help the orphans and street kids.
