Upset: Dallas Mavericks collapse in front of unrelenting Seattle Supersonics 81-85
by Max Pyziur
Monday, Jan. 20 In what is sure to go into the season's record books the unstoppable
Mavericks last night collapsed in front of the currently
fledgling Supersonics (18-21).
The Mavericks coming in with the NBA's current best record of 31-8 have
given up losses in the most unlikely circumstances, the most notable
previous
ones being the December 6th rout by the Lakers (105-103) and the
recent January 15th Harlem Globetrotter-like dance of the Sacramento Kings
(123-94).
Usually relentlessly high scoring, the Mavs were held to 81 points
topped by the Sonics 85. Power forward Peja Drobnjak put in a strong
showing for Seattle with 8 for 13 field goals and 3 for 3 free throws
for 19 points after stumbling previously 0 for 8 against Memphis
on Friday. With Drobnjak holding a hot hand, Vitaly Potapenko, Peja's
backup, saw only 8 minutes of play coming in with 3 rebounds and no
point scoring attempts or free throws.
