A retrospective of prints produced by 10 prominent British artists provides a fresh look at the vibrant art scene in the decades when "Swinging London" was setting new directions for artists in many fields. It opens at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art on January 10. Culled from the Institute's permanent collection, the works were part of a bequest by Dr. Pellayo B. Cabrera.
The artists, whose work is gaining new respect in critical circles, include Peter Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Bernard Cohen, Robyn Denny, Mary Fedden, Elisabeth Frink, John Hoyland, Allen Jones, William Scott and Richard Smith, all leaders in the renaissance of British print making that flourished in those decades.
The styles represented are a mix of graffiti, graphic convention, photojournalism, drawing and color manipulation. Many of the works can be found in the collections of the world's most prominent museums, including the Tate, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
The opening reception on Friday, January 10, is being presented with the generous support of Her Majesty's Consul General Robert Culshaw, Chicago.
The exhibit will be on view until February 15.
