"Ukraine's Quest for Mature Nation Statehood --Roundtable III:
Ukraine and the EuroAtlantic Community"
October 8/9, 2002, Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. (UNIS) - More than 90 Ukrainian and U.S. government officials, international foreign policy experts, and prominent figures from research centers and academia have confirmed their participation in the third annual "Ukraine's Quest for Mature Nation Statehood" roundtable conference. A veritable "who's who" of foreign policy establishments from the United States, Ukraine, the European Union, and NATO are gathering on October 8 th and 9 th to assess Ukraine's integration into the structures of the Euro-Atlantic community

The two-day conference, held at the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Avenue in the heart of our nation's capital, features several keynote addresses, 12 panel discussions and two working luncheons. The Roundtable III Steering Committee is pleased to announce that the Honorable Carl Levin (D-MI), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will deliver a keynote address on the importance of Ukraine to the Euro-Atlantic community.

Ukraine's Quest for Mature Nation Statehood - Roundtable III: "Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic Community" will take into account Ukraine's efforts to move matters from theory to practice, by exploring four major areas of discussion. The conference's topics include: Assessing the Progress of Ukraine's Transition to EuroAtlantic Structures; Assessing the State of European Union-Ukraine Relations; Assessing the State of U.S.-Ukraine Relations; and Assessing the State of NATO-Ukraine Relations.

Speaking on behalf of Ukraine, the following speakers have confirmed their attendance: Oleksandr Chaliy, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Volodymyr Khoroshkovsky, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration; Hennadiy Udovenko, Chair - Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights; Serhiy Osyka, Head of the Ukraine-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Commission; Mykola Tomenko, Chair - Parliamentary Committee on Information; Dmytro Tabachnyk, Chair - Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations; Borys Tarasyuk, Chair - Parliamentary Committee on European Integration; Yuriy Yekhanurov, Chair - Parliamentary Committee on Industry & Enterpreneurship; Kostyantyn Hryshchenko, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States; and, Roman Shpek, Special Envoy to the European Union (EU).
