Schaffer Wins Ukrainian Bar Association's 2002 "Rule of Law Award"
WASHINGTON, DC - The Ukrainian American Bar Association tonight presented U.S. Congressman Bob Schaffer (R-CO), Co-Chairman of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus, with its highly coveted "Rule of Law Award" for "his work on behalf of Ukrainian issues" in the United States Congress.
"This award recognizes Bob Schaffer's strong commitment to Ukraine's independence, passionate advocacy for human rights, democratic institutions, and a free-market economy, and for his leadership of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus," Andre Michniak, UABA President said.
The award was presented Saturday night at the keynote dinner on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Ukraine American Bar Association at the Sheriton Rittenhouse Square Hotel in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Congressman Schaffer was also the event's Keynote Speaker.
"I am honored to except this distinguished award and to be recognized for my efforts in Congress on behalf of Ukraine, with the goal of helping the Ukrainian people develop a vibrant democratic society," Schaffer said. "As a child of a Ukrainian immigrant, I celebrated Ukraine's independence in 1991 and its separation from the tyranny of Soviet communism. My heart swelled with pride as Ukrainians broke the shackles of communism and announced their desire to live free. This Ukrainian passion for liberty and justice is, in fact, why Ukrainians and our Ukrainian parents and grandparents came to America."
