Fourth Meeting of the SECI Counter Trafficking Task Force
ROMANIA IOM representatives from offices in Bulgaria, fYR of Macedonia and Romania are taking part in the 4th regional meeting organised by the Southeast European Cooperative Initiative (SECI) counter trafficking task force in Bucharest.
This meeting, which brings together representatives from Albania, Bulgaria, FYR of Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Turkey, France, Germany, Italy, the US and Ukraine, will work on a plan of action to combat trafficking and smuggling in human beings, which includes:
IOM offices in the Balkans have accumulated a great deal of experience in awareness raising information campaigns to warn potential victims of the pitfalls of irregular migration. IOM also provides protection, counselling and return and reintegration assistance to victims of trafficking.
A recent IOM report on the extent of trafficking in women and children to, through and from the Balkans clearly establishes that trafficking in the Balkans remains a significant problem, affecting a growing number of women and children.
