An Evening of Christmas Caroling (Koliada) at the Embassy of Ukraine

Ambassador Kostyantyn Gryshchenko and his wife Nataliya hosted a "Christmas Pageant Celebration" on Friday, January 25, 2002, at the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington, D.C. Guests numbering in the hundreds attended the holiday gala which featured the caroling traditions of Ukraine followed by a reception with an array of traditional Ukrainian Christmas dishes.

Performing for the capacity crowd were Promin Vocal Ensemble (New York City) conducted by Ms. Bohdanna Wolansky and the Bandura Ensemble of New York directed by Mr. Julian Kytasty. Bandurist Alla Kutsevych was also among the featured entertainers. The ensembles performed a wide selection of traditional Ukrainian Christmas and New Year's songs, and later engaged the guests in an informal caroling jamboree as is customary among Ukrainians. A youth choir composed of children of the Embassy staff especially charmed the audience with their sweet voices.

The Embassy "Christmas Pageant Celebration" was supported by The Washington Group, The Washington Group Cultural Fund, the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation and the Ukrainian Federation of America.
