BRAMA, September 14, 2001, 12 pm ET

September 14, 2001 - New Yorkers have been showing patriotism and support for their country by carrying flags wherever they go. Churches, schools, businesses and even private individuals at home have hung flags at half mast out of respect for those who have been lost or injured in the terrorist attacks on America.

In the photos below:

  • St. Stanislaus (Polish) Church on East 7th Street hangs a flag at half mast next to the bust of Pope John Paul II.
  • Boys wave the American flag as they walk along East 6th Street.
  • Getting around lower Manhattan is easier on bycicles - flags prominently perched in the bikers' backpacks.
  • East 3rd Street sports a large flag hung by the motorcycle club "Hell's Angels".
  • St. George Ukrainian Catholic School - flagpole without a flag.
