NEW YORK, Sept 6 - A reception in commemoration of Ukraine's Independence was held at the Consulate of Ukraine today. Members of the local Diaspora community as well as representatives from other diplomatic missions, were invited by the Consul General of Ukraine, Mr. Pohoreltsev, to honor the 10th anniversary of independent Ukraine. The surprise guest for the evening was Ukrainian world ice skating sensation and Olympic champion, Viktor Petrenko. Ukraine's Independence Day is celebrated on August 24th. A week-long gala event took place this year in Kyiv and other places around the world to mark this historic anniversary.
