DECLARATION DU PORTE PAROLE DE L'OTAN SUR LE 10eme
ANNIVERSAIRE DE L'INDEPENDANCE DE L'UKRAINE LE 24 AOUT 2001 L'Ukraine célèbre aujourd'hui le 10eme anniversaire de son indépendance. Depuis 1991, l'OTAN et l'Ukraine ont accompli de grands progrès en vue d'établir une relation spéciale dans une Europe qui a fait disparaître les lignes de division du passé. Des avancées significatives ont été réalisées dans la mise en œuvre de la Charte OTANUkraine de partenariat spécifique, signée à Madrid, il y a quatre ans. L'Alliance demeure déterminée à renforcer encore les relations OTAN-Ukraine, sur la base de nos engagements et responsabilités communs en faveur de la sécurité et de la stabilité en Europe, et en particulier dans les Balkans, et de la participation active de l'Ukraine au programme de Partenariat pour la paix. L'OTAN continuera d'apporter son soutien à une Ukraine indépendante, démocratique et tournée vers l'économie de marché et encourage l'Ukraine à faire avancer le processus de réforme, notamment dans le domaine crucial de la défense. Pour commémorer le 10e anniversaire de l'indépendance
de l'Ukraine, le Secrétaire général, LordRobertson,
a envoyé un télégramme de félicitations au
Président LeonidKoutchma.

STATEMENT BY NATO SPOKESMAN
Today, Ukraine celebrates the 10th anniversary of its independence. Since 1991, NATO and Ukraine have made great strides in developing a special relationship in a Europe that has overcome the dividing lines of the past. Significant progress has been achieved in the implementation of the NATO-Ukraine Charter on a Distinctive Partnership, signed four years ago in Madrid. Building on our joint commitments and responsibilities to contribute to security and stability in Europe, in particular in the Balkans, and on Ukraine’s active participation in the Partnership for Peace Programme, the Alliance remains committed to further enhance NATO-Ukraine relations. NATO will continue to support independent, democratic and market-oriented Ukraine and encourages Ukraine to take the reform process forward, including in the critical field of defence reform. Commemorating this 10th anniversary of Ukrainian’s independence, the
Secretary General, Lord Robertson, has addressed a telegram of congratulations
to President Leonid Kuchma.
