Kyiv - "Glory To Ukraine" Monument the night before
the official unveiling ceremony.
A full dress rehearsal was held for the production
that is to be presented on Thursday, August 23rd.
In the photograph one can see the dancers
and the spread of balloons at the foot of the monument. A temporary
back wall has been constructed of wood topped
by banners in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
Those who are familiar with this part of Kyiv may notice that the hotel
in the background has changed its name. What used to be the "Moskva Hotel"
now proudly displays its new name - "Ukrayina". The change was timed to coincide with
the 10th anniversary Independence Day celebrations.
A large crowd gathered on Khreschatyk the evening
of August 22nd to watch the excitement. Dress rehearsals
included preparations for the Independence Day
Parade on Friday, August 24th featuring Ukrainian
dancers, sports figures, and military units.
