July 30, 2001 The Honorable ________________ United States Senate Washington, DC 20510 Dear Senator ___________ : As a constituent in your state, I am writing to inform you of a Senate Concurrent Resolution commemorating and congratulating Ukraine on its upcoming 10th Anniversary of Independence. I urge you to express your support for Ukraine's development as a member of the community of nations by voting in the affirmative for the Senate Concurrent Resolution regarding the 10th Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine. The U.S. government has shown great concern for the political and economic development of Ukraine, as well as its integration in Euro-Atlantic structures. Even as recent as last week, during a visit to Ukraine, National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice expressed admiration for the achievements of economic reform in Ukraine and urged the Ukrainian government's resolve to uphold democratic principles. Indeed, Ukraine's increasing orientation toward the United States and progress toward reform in the past several years is interlaced with concerns for democratic principles and a Soviet-style legacy of corruption. Thus, it is essential to acknowledge Ukraine's 10th Anniversary of Independence, which will reinforce the support that the U.S. government provides to Ukraine and show that the strongest democracy in the world is concerned about the future of newly independent Ukraine. Once again, I urge you to support the Senate's Resolution regarding the 10th Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine. I thank you in advance for your support of Ukrainian-American issues and look forward to further cooperation with you and your office. Sincerely, ___________________ ___________________
