Plast, a Ukrainian scouting organization, always has especially tasty treats
for sale at the festival. The nalysnyky (cheese crepes or blintzes) were a hot item
at this booth, and kept long-time Plastuny Volodymyr Kornaha (center) and Mrs. Kosovych (right, in
Ukrainian costume) on their toes from Friday night through late Sunday evening.

New York - Thousands of visitors came to East 7th Street in the East Village to take part in the annual St. George Ukrainian Festival this past weekend. The weather cooperated by not raining, although the Saturday heat was intense and Sunday's breezy cold temperatures forced people to bundle up in warm clothing. Last year in comparison was a washout due to rainstorms and strong winds that nearly blew off the tops of the booths. Vendors at the festival included St. George Church, shops from the New York City area, local organizations such as the Ukrainian National Women's League of America, Plast (a scouting youth group), artists and artisans, and others. |
