VIKTOR PETRENKO AND CINGULAR WIRELESS TEAM UP WITH
THE CHILDREN OF CHORNOBYL RELIEF FUND Simsbury, CT (February 8, 2000) - World & Olympic Champion Viktor Petrenko will appear at the Cingular Wireless retail store at the West Farms Mall in Farmington on Sunday, February 11th. The Simsbury resident will make the most of a two-day break from the national tour he is currently skating with, Champions on Ice, for the 12:00 pm appearance. Petrenko will be available for autographs and photographs and be joined by representatives from the Children of Chornobyl Relief Fund and Cingular Wireless. The event will formally announce the partnership of Cingular Wireless with Petrenko for his upcoming charity ice show at the International Skating Center of Connecticut. The Cingular Wireless Viktory for Kids on March 2nd & 3rd will feature Petrenko, an an all-star supporting cast and honorary chairpersons, Connecticut Governor and Mrs. John Rowland, U.S. Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and U.S. Representative Nancy Johnson. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Children of Chornobyl Relief Fund (CCRF) and help establish the Viktor Petrenko Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Petrenko's hometown of Odessa, Ukraine. "I am pleased that Cingular Wireless has joined forces to help me in my effort to offer assistance to those suffering from the Chornobyl disaster. Although the tragedy occurred years ago, the consequences are still being felt," said Petrenko. Petrenko will be joined in the March show by World & Olympic Champion, Brian Boitano, World Silver Medalist, Philippe Candeloro, current Olympic Pairs Champions, Oksana Kazakova & Artur Dmitriev, current U.S. Dance Champions, Naomi Lang & Peter Tchernyshev, current U.S. Pairs Champions, Kyoko Ina & John Zimmerman, U.S. Silver Medalist, Sasha Cohen and more. The event will also feature appearances by the Ukrainian daredevil acrobats, four-time grammy winner Paul Winter, and the children of Avon and Simsbury elementary schools. FRIENDS TO SKATE IN A SPECIAL BENEFIT ICE SHOW Simsbury Ice Show will benefit Chornobyl victims
Simsbury, CT (January 12, 2000) -World and Olympic Champion, Viktor Petrenko is teaming up with the International Skating Center of Connecticut (ISCC) to host a charity ice show, VIKTOR-Y for KIDS. The ice show will benefit the Children of Chornobyl Relief Fund (CCRF) and provide aid to victims of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster. Funds raised from VIKTOR-Y for KIDS will be allocated towards the creation of the Viktor Petrenko Neonatal Intensive Care Clinic in Petrenko's hometown of Odessa, Ukraine. CCRF is a humanitarian organization committed to protect and save the lives of children confronting the human legacy of the Chornobyl environmental disaster. In the organization's short history, CCRF has spearheaded 26 airlifts and 9 sea shipments resulting in the delivery of 1,300 tons of medical supplies and technology. CCRF's efforts have dramatically reduced infant mortality rates in several of its partner hospitals. Petrenko has rallied his friends in the skating world to help him champion this cause. Joining Petrenko in the two-day show is World & Olympic Champion, Brian Boitano, current Olympic Pairs Champions, Oksana Kazakova & Artur Dmitriev, two-time U.S. Dance Champions, Naomi Lang & Peter Tchernyshev, U.S. Silver Medalist, Sasha Cohen, Ukrainian National & European Champion, Viacheslav Zagorodniuk, Swiss Champion, Lucinda Ruh, Italian National Champion, Silvia Fontana, Israeli National Champion, Michael Shmerkin, the Ukrainian Daredevil Acrobats, Alexei & Vladimir and more. Connecticut Governor and Mrs. John Rowland will serve as Honorary Chairs. "I am happy to have the opportunity to work with CCRF and offer assistance to the children who are still suffering from this tragic disaster. With the aid of medical supplies and cutting-edge technology, a big difference can be made. The tragedy of Chornobyl occurred years ago, but the consequences are still being felt," said Petrenko. VIKTOR-Y for KIDS will include two performances at ISCC, Petrenko's home ice, on Friday, March 2nd and Saturday, March 3rd. Both performances begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets will go on sale, Monday, January 15th and are $39.95 (on-ice seating) and $29.95 (stadium seating).
