Future site for UAOC monastery: NYC's East Village
The Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in the U.S.A. is hoping to find a location for the Monastery of St. Pokrova in New York City's East Village, also known as the Ukrainian Village. The Monastery will function as a outreach center for area Ukrainians as well as a day care center for the elderly and social service center. It will be staffed by licensed social workers, and the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, a Catholic order, will also be working with the UAOC to provide social services for those in need.
The UAOC is searching for an abadoned church or any large building to house the monastery and social sevices center. It must be large enough to hold Daily Divine Liturgy as well as space for living quarters for the resident monks. A call is being issued to the public to help the UAOC honor St.Pokrova - not to mention that it is a good tax break for property owners and benefactors.
To help, please contact the office of the Consistory UAOC:
