BRAMA, January 8, 2001, 10:00am EST
Saturday & Sunday January 20-21, 2001 NEW YORK:
Yara Arts Group will present WINTER SONGS from SONG TREE, workshops in Ukrainian folk singing with Maryana Sadovska, who was born in Lviv, performed Yara's first project in Ukraine, and last month appeared in Yara's acclaimed Song Tree. For the last ten summers she traveled through Polissia, the Poltava, Hutsul and Lemko regions of Ukraine collecting songs, stories and documenting rituals. Discover the folk voice in you. Enjoy traditional harmony singing. Learn the ancient winter songs Yara artists recorded this year in Ukraine. You do not have to be able to read Ukrainian or music to participate. Two sessions Saturday 12-4 PM and Sunday 2-6 PM. $20 per session/ $35 for both. You can take either or both, since different material is covered in each. They will be held at La MaMa Rehearsal Halls. You must pre-register. Call or e-mail Yara for directions or to register at (212) 475-6474 or e-mail yara@prodigy.net For more information Winter Songs |
