Swiss Bank Holocaust Distribution Unfair to Ukrainians
1.25 billion Swiss bank settlement holocaust settlement criticized as a disappointment to millions of non Jewish victims

Attorneys representing the largest grouping of WWII survivors and their heirs, victims from the former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia where over 12 million civilians were killed by the Nazis and their allies and millions more enslaved have criticized the Swiss Bank Holocaust Litigation distribution plan as a disappointment to millions, troubling, and unfair to the few non-Jewish slave laborers included.

In an October 27, 2000 letter to Judge Korman regarding the proposed Swiss Bank Holocaust litigation distribution plan set for a court hearing in Brooklyn, New York on November 20, 2000, attorney Jonathan Levy on behalf of five WWII survivor organizations representing victims from the former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, wrote on the topic of exclusion of non-Jews from the settlement:

The so-called global settlement ignores the more than twelve million non-Jewish victims from the former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia who were murdered by the Nazis and their allies. These victims’ assets, dental gold, and wedding rings were treated in the same manner as that of Jewish victims but they are not acknowledged.

An agreement that elevates the suffering of some groups over that of others and the apparent unwillingness of class counsel to publicly address the issue is troubling.

Levy also questioned the $500 to $1000 proposed to settle the claims of mainly non-Jewish slave laborers who worked in Swiss owned factories in Nazi Germany as being a mere fraction of the proposed payouts for Austrian and German slave laborers.

Along with California attorney Thomas Easton, Levy has filed two class action lawsuits on behalf of non-Jewish victims of the Nazis in California Federal Court. The defendants in these lawsuits are the Swiss National Bank and Vatican Bank who are accused of laundering billions of dollars of Nazi gold including dental gold and gold coins, and wedding rings looted from gentile Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusan and Yugoslavian concentration camp and war victims. According to the two attorneys other Swiss banks who participated in Nazi financial schemes will be named as defendants in the near future.
