Toronto, CA – DESNA Ukrainian Dance Company of Toronto recently held its Annual General Meeting. A new Executive and Board were elected for the 2000-2001 season. The Executive consists of Roman Parzei, President; Taras Pawluk, Vice-President; Yvan Oleksiuk-Baker, Treasurer and Maria Nemyliwska, Secretary. DESNA first appeared on the Toronto arts scene in 1974 and sprang forth into Canadian, American and European circles perpetuating the richness and beauty of Ukrainian culture and tradition. DESNA named after the majestic river in north central Ukraine, is proud to display the art form of dance to audiences of every ethnic background.
DESNA is pleased to announce that this season it will be embarking on a tour of California, scheduled for the end of August 2001. Preparations have started in earnest with the recruitment of dancers who can add talent and contribute to a high caliber dance company. Under the artistic direction of Yuri and Luba Grekov, this year's repertoire will be expanded to include not only DESNA's famous blend of folk, classical, and character dances from various regions of Ukraine, but also multicultural dances such as gypsy, country and Celtic.

If you live in the Toronto area, are an experienced dancer 14 years of age or older and you would like to add your talents to DESNA then send us an e-mail to desna@icomm.ca. We would love to hear from you. Performance opportunities are also available locally, across Canada and USA and internationally.
The California tour does require a considerable amount of money. You are invited to contact Roman Parzei and explore the opportunity of being a DESNA sponsor of this exciting tour. Plans are also underway to hold various fundraising events throughout the year. Details of fundraising events will be made available in the near future. DESNA, a registered charitable organization, accepts donations that will be used to offset the costs associated with the tour. A tax receipt will be issued for any donations made.
