Addressing Freedom of the Press in Ukraine
- UCCA to host brown bag lunch
New York, NY (UCCA) -- On Thursday, October 19, 2000, Mr. Dmytro Ponomarchuk, a well-known journalist and long-time Press Secretary for Rukh, will discuss "Ukraine's Political Developments and Freedom of the Press" during a special brown bag lunch hosted by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA). The event will be held at 12:30PM at the UCCA National Office located at 203 Second Avenue (between 12th and 13th Streets) in New York City.
Mr. Ponomarchuk, upon graduating from Kyiv State University, worked in Ukrainian television, Radio "Kyiv" and several Kyiv publications until 1989 when he became the Press Secretary for Narodniy Rukh. In 1991 he worked as press secretary for the presidential campaign of Vyacheslav Chornovil and then continued in this capacity when Mr. Chornovil became the head of Rukh. Mr. Ponomarchuk is currently the Chief Consultant and Press Secretary of the Nadorniy Rukh Parliamentary Faction in Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada. He is also the President of the recently established Vyacheslav Chornovil Charitable Foundation in Support of Freedom of the Press in Ukraine.
