Washington, D.C. - Governor Oleh Dyomin of Kharkiv Oblast traveled to the United States this week heading a business and trade delegation from Ukraine. Accompanying the Governor is Mikhail Pilipchuk, Mayor of Kharkiv, and 12 other Ukrainian business and governmental leaders.

The delegation is in this country as part of the "Kharkiv Initiative" program. The program is designed to concentrate the combined efforts of the US and Ukrainian governments, together with the Kharkiv City Administration, for the purpose of expanding regional economic development in the Kharkiv Oblast. Market reform, market information, enterprise restructuring and the attraction of private equity investments are among the goals of the "Kharkiv Initiative."

On Monday evening, the delegates were hosted by Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States, Kostyantyn Gryshchenko. The reception, held at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, was attended by more than 50 guests.

In addition to holding meetings in DC, the delegation will be traveling to meet with representatives in various U.S. cities including Chicago, Des Moines, Detroit and New York.
