Shevchenko award-winning potter Mykhaylo Yegosvych Kytrysh from Opychnya and Artist Union Secretary Petro Ganza hold two of Kytrysh's works, a Lion and a Horse. Mr. Kytrysh's works are highly sought after by collectors of Opychnya folkart. Ganza headed the ceramic center in Opychnya for several years and is now secretary of the National Artists Union in Kyiv.
The site of the Museum at one time belonged a monastery, but under the Soviet regime, the religious community disintegrated. In the 1960's, the Museum was founded as a means to preserve Ukrainian culture. |
