A trembita echoes through Lincoln Center:
"Cheres" brings the sounds of Ukrainian Hutsuls to New Yorkers

New York - On Saturday, September 9, from noon to 8:00 PM, the Center for Traditional Music and Dance presented Folk Parks 2000, a free day-long festival that featured music performances from world cultures by premier artists who now make their home in New York. The Ukrainian group Cheres, led by Andriy Milavsky, opened the festivities last Saturday with an energetic and rocking one hour performance. Folk Parks 2000 marks the 25th anniversary of the Center's flagship festival and, takes place at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park, 62th St. between Broadway and Amsterdam. Admission was free. Presented by the Center for Traditional Music and Dance, Folk Parks 2000 brought together an extraordinary group of artists representing cultures from around the world. Among the other performers at the Lincoln Center Bandshell were Irish Music phenomenon Cherish The Ladies, merengue music from the Dominican Republic by David-David, Native American dance by the Thunderbird Dancers, Senegalese sabar drumming by Mar Gueye and N'Geuwel, Korean traditional dance and drumming by Hanguk, and Filipino tribal dance by BIBAK.
