Ottawa, ON - Over three hundred Ukrainian-Canadian youth and leaders will be gathering at Camp Awakamenj-Mino near Low, Quebec 30 July-13 August for the Plast millennium national jamboree. Visits to Ottawa landmarks are scheduled for 1-4 August.
"Our varied programme, focussing on Ukrainian culture and our Eastern Christian tradition, will position our members to make a unique contribution in tackling the challenges facing Canada and the world in the new millennium," says Organizing Committee Chair Lydia Migus, of Plast’s Ottawa branch. "We want them to connect with the nation’s capital. Thanks to the hospitality of our partners in the Scouts du Canada, we can share the natural beauty of the Gatineau with participants from across the country."
With branches across five provinces from Quebec to Alberta, Plast is a nation-wide youth association with over a half-century of community service, drawing on the principles of the scouting movement while emphasizing a contemporary vision of the Ukrainian heritage in Canada.
From spelunking through canoeing on the Gatineau, to some healthy competition in sporting skills and environmental awareness, Plast members are set for two weeks of enjoyment and camaraderie, both on the portage path and on Parliament Hill.
