Ukrainian National Women's League of America

New York - On June 4th, the New York Regional Council of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America (UNWLA) celebrated the 75th anniversary of the organization's founding. A capacity crowd attended the special event with many distinguished guests joining UNWLA members in commemorating the milestone year. One surprise guest present for dinner was the Honorable Suzanna Stanik, Minister of Justice of Ukraine, who had just arrived in New York to attend the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly at the United Nations.
The program included formal opening ceremonies, an address by Iryna Kurowyckyj, President of UNWLA, a speech by honored member Chrystia Nawrocky, and a prayer led by Bishop Losten. After dinner, the guests were treated to a presentation by the theater group "Studiya Mystetskoho Slova Lidii Krushelnytskoji" titled "Zhinka v Kniazhiy Dobi" (Woman During the Princely Era), excerpt from the historic poem "Slovo pro Ukrayinu" (A Word About Ukraine) by Leonid Poltava. The selection underlined the role women play in a traditional society by highlighting women who were influential in Ukraine’s history - eminently germane to the theme for the day. The guests were also entertained by the voices of vocal ensemble "Promin’", whose elegant and moving rendition of "Bozhe Velykyj Jedynyj’" touched the soul.
Congratulations to the UNWLA for all the outstanding programs it has conducted during its first 75 years of existence!
