Yushchenko concludes U.S. trip with receipt of Vynnychenko Collection Washington, DC - Ukraine's Prime Minister Viktor Yushchenko was a special guest at a presentation ceremony held on Monday May 8 at the Embassy of Ukraine. On behalf of the Ukrainian government, Yushchenko accepted the priceless Vynnychenko Collection which in accordance with the wishes of literary scholar Professor Hryhory Kostiuk was to be turned over to free and independent Ukraine. The work of Volodymyr Vynnychenko, prolific writer and political activist in the early 20th century, was largely compiled by Prof. Kostiuk as part of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences (UVAN) in the US and until now housed at Columbia University. The presentation was made by H. Kostiuk's son, Dr. Theodor Kostiuk. Other speakers included Ukraine's Ambassador Kostiantyn Hryshchenko, Dr. Shevel'ov and Dr. Oleksa Bilaniuk (UVAN). Among the many distinguished guests attending the presentation were Ambassador to Ukraine Pifer and wife, former Ambassador to Ukraine Miller and his wife, Ukraine's Minister of Finance Ihor Mytiukov, Tamara Solanyk (representative of Ukraine at the World Bank) and Natalia Zaroudna (formerly Press & Information Counselor at the Ukrainian Embassy, currently Yushchenko staff member ), Dr. Albert Kipa (V-p, UVAN). Prime Minister Yushchenko is in the United States on official business attending meetings with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, as well as President Clinton, V-P Gore and others.
