The Tragedy of Chechnia
Dear Editor (press@brama.com):
At the end of our millennium the world powers silently witness how the Russians are annihilating the Chechnian nation. Violation of human rights was, and still is, the way of life of the chauvinistic Russians.
The brutal annihilation of Chechnya is not, and should not be treated as an internal matter of Russia. On the one side we have the cruel Russian oppressors and on the other one there are heroic freedom fighters of Chechnya
It is important to remember that Chechen people "have resisted the Russian rule and fought against eradication of their culture for two centuries", as the New York Times columnist William Safire pointed out.
And by the way, what are Russians doing on territory of Chechnya, Do they not have their own enormous territory? Chechens have their own language, culture and the Muslim religion, while Russians are Orthodox or atheists. That is one of the proofs, that Chechnya is not and should not be an integral part of Russia.
It is a habit of Russians to call "bandits and killers" all those who dared to fight against the cruel Russian oppression. But what name applies to Russians, who brutally killed about 20 million Ukrainians during the last 70 years of their rule there. During his conversation with Winston Churchill on August 16, 1942 Stalin himself admitted that during the organized and enforced FAMINE of 1932-1933 in Ukraine died ten millions of Ukrainians. (Churchill's memoirs, vol. 4, p. 498.) At that time The borders were sealed and all help from abroad refused.
Russians can not live with their neighbors in peace. They have a "habit" of dominating and mercilessly oppressing them. Their history is full of countless examples of such behavior, connected with brutal tortures as well as other atrocities. One can ask why , until now, there was no "Nurnberg" trial, during which Russian heinous crimes could have been exposed. That might be the reason that they feel free to interfere in the internal affairs of Chechnia and the other subjugated nations. Russian chauvinism and greed has no limits. Now the victim is Chechnia. Which country will be next?
