Ruby and sapphire belong to the group of corundum. The chemical formula is aluminum oxide (Al3O2). The different colors result from minimal contents of metalloxides like chrome, titanium or ferrum. Ruby is the red variety of corundum, where the color results from chromoxide. The prices depend on color, cut, clarity and carat - size. Ruby stones are available in different qualities, sizes (also calibrated) and cuts from Thailand, India, Burma, Sri Lanka, Africa, Cambodia and Vietnam.
